John Gould, Ph.D.
John Gould consults on cases that encompass a wide range of finance-related issues, including Rule 10b-5, Section 11 and Section 12(2) class actions, mutual fund performance and derivative securities. Most recently, John has also provided expert testimony in United States Tax Court.
John has addressed issues such as loss causation, damages estimation, class certification, insider trading, share repurchases and acquisitions in over fifty securities cases. He has supported faculty and industry experts in preparing testimony and has consulted with attorneys to assist them in identifying and understanding potential liability and damages issues. In addition, he has served as a damages expert in settlement negotiations. John has also focused on issues associated with complex securities such as convertible bonds, interest rate swaps, and collateralized mortgage obligations.
John is the co-author of "Market Maker Activity on Nasdaq: Implications for Trading Volume," which was published in the inaugural issue of the Stanford Journal of Law, Business & Finance. This analysis of market maker trading in Nasdaq stocks has been used by plaintiff and defendant experts to estimate damages in securities cases.
